About Us

Water Guard was established as a Division of a Testing Laboratory in Wilson, NC in 1962. The laboratory was the only source of chemicals for the industry of eastern North Carolina and from this small beginning has matured to a significant supplier of chemicals and equipment in the state. The initial emphasis was for chemicals to treat industrial water in boilers and cooling towers. Shortly after this start, greater demand for chemicals to treat drinking water moved the company to supply this market as well. Chemical feed equipment, water softeners and water filters were added to the chemicals offered by the company. The company also functions as a consultant to the operators of potable water systems helping in the design and use of both the equipment and chemicals.

In 1977, the company was purchased by the employees of the Division and set up as a separate corporation -- Water Guard, Inc. The sales were still centered on industrial water treatment with a smaller emphasis on potable water systems. By the early 1980s, the potable water industry became the primary market of the company. The company introduced Sodium Hypochlorite to this industry and by the mid-1980s, most of the medium to small drinking systems were using industrial bleach as their chlorine source. The company pioneered the transport and delivery of small bulk chlorine to these facilities, saving both time and money for our customers. This same method of delivery was added for Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda). Because of this efficient method of service, the company began deliveries to municipal swimming pools. Today, the company is the largest supplier of industrial bleach to swimming pools in eastern North Carolina. In the 1990s, the small bulk delivery system was offered to the industrial market and received with enthusiasm. The company has doubled in size every 7 years. Our market for equipment has expanded to cover the Eastern Seaboard from New Jersey to Florida and our chemicals are transported on our own trucks in North Carolina, southern Virginia and northern South Carolina.
